A fantastic post over on The Growing Life about not becoming a “real person” – meaning a person burdened with all the crap we’re told we need, like mortgages and cubicle jobs.
It is such a secret place, the land of tears.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

A great king summoned his wise men. He ordered them, “Create for me a saying that will stabilize my inner state. When I am unhappy it will bring me joy, and when I am happy it will remind me of sadness. It cannot be too long, as I want to keep it with me always.”
The wise men consulted and contemplated deeply the king’s command. Finally, they returned to the king bearing a small box. In it there was a ring, and inside the ring was inscribed the following words: “This too shall pass.”
The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.

Free love? As if love is anything but free! Man has bought brains, but all the millions in the world have failed to buy love. Man has subdued bodies, but all the power on earth has been unable to subdue love. Man has conquered whole nations, but all his armies could not conquer love. Man has chained and fettered the spirit, but he has been utterly helpless before love. High on a throne, with all the splendor and pomp his gold can command, man is yet poor and desolate, if love passes him by. And if it stays, the poorest hovel is radiant with warmth, with life and color. Thus love has the magic power to make of a beggar a king. Yes, love is free; it can dwell in no other atmosphere.

No eternity will return.
He soon felt that the realization of his desires gave him no more than a grain of sand out of the mountain of happiness he had expected. It showed him the mistake men make in picturing to themselves happiness as the realization of their desires.

I really love VW Campers; call me a hippy cliche if you will. One day I’ll get one, one day.
